Flamingo marvel draws tourists to Bogoria

Tourists are flocking to Lake Bogoria in Baringo County to watch a large number of flamingos thronging the lake. The big number of flamingos, estimated at 1.7 million, pushes Lake Nakuru to second position in Kenya. Mr William Kimosop, senior warden for Baringo County, says some 75 per cent of lesser flamingos, the most common type in Kenya, are found in Lake Bogoria. Lake Bogoria, with a latitude of 0.25 (0° 15' 0 N) and a longitude of 36.1 (36° 6' 0 E), is a hydrographic (lake) located in the area / state of Rift Valley in Kenya. It is situated 227 kilometers west (248°) of the approximate center of Kenya and 188 kilometers north west (335°) of the captial Nairobi. A 100 square kilometer area around Lake Bogoria has an aproximate population of 97262 (0.000973 persons per square meter) and an average elevation of 1712 meters above sea levels.
