The proposed Wikithuki Cooperative Irrigation Scheme in Kitui County will be expanded 10-fold both in acreage and financing, if government proposals are fully implemented. Treasury has allocated Sh300 million this financial year for the first phase, which involves irrigation of 5,000 acres, and plans to increase funding while local residents have already offered 95,000 acres of land for the project.
