Citizens of Kenya and Rwanda will use national identity cards as travel documents in bilateral arrangement

Citizens of Kenya and Rwanda will start using their national identity cards as travel documents in a bilateral arrangement that seeks to motivate other East African Community (EAC) members to drop the use of passports at their borders. Immigration minister Otieno Kajwang’ said the initiative, which begins later this year, will ease movement between the two countries as envisaged under the common market.  Kenya will, however, continue to demand a temporary pass, EAC passport or national passports from citizens of Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda before allowing them into its territory. Rwanda and Kenya had also led the way last year in waiving work permit fee although their citizens still have to obtain the documents in order to secure employment or set up businesses in either of the countries. read on: http://www.businessdailyafrica.com/Corporate+News/Kenya+strikes+deal+with+Rwanda+on+travel+documents+/-/539550/1258456/-/64akf8/-/
