Last weekend, classical music lovers thronged the Braeburn theatre in Nairobi for a show by London’s Concordia International Ensemble and a group of Kenyan classical musicians. The sound of the violin and the Luhya traditional lyre, litungu, filled the auditorium. The country has been receiving plenty of classical musicians from abroad lately.
In July, Italian-born composer and conductor of the Chicago Orchestra, Riccardo Muti, has performed in Nairobi. Earlier in the year, Cameroonian baritone Jacques-Greg Belobo also performed at Kenya National Theatre. Later this month at the Safaricom Kenya Classical Fusion Shows, South Africa’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo led by Joseph Shabalala will be in town for a series of concerts.But the most recent visit was by Gillian Humphreys, a renowned singer and broadcaster, alongside her Concordia International Ensemble. read on: http://www.nation.co.ke/News/-/1056/1237834/-/10fv2hgz/-/index.html
