Land of leading women scientists

Nyeri has produced some of Kenya’s top women scientists whose work has had a lasting impact on the people. They include Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai who died last month. Prof Mathai was the first woman to earn a Ph D degree in Kenya. Her work in the protection of trees saw her score another first when she became the first black African woman to win the Nobel Peace prize. But Nyeri also has other women scientists who have made memorable contributions to the country’s development.
