Google’s bid to put small and medium firms in Kenya online

Small and medium enterprises now have an opportunity to create their own websites for free following the launch of Getting Kenya Businesses Online (GKBO) by Google.
The initiative is a partnership between Google and a number of Kenyan institutions.
It aims at helping SMEs create their websites and benefit from opportunities offered by the Internet.
“GKBO will transform the Kenyan SME landscape and have a real impact on the economy, contributing towards Kenya’s Vision 2030. Google is giving SMEs a headstart by making it quick and easy to have an online presence,” said Dr Bitange Ndemo, PS in the Ministry of Information and Communication.
Local statistics estimate the number of Internet users in Kenya to be about 10 million, a figure that represents a growth of 18 per cent in the total number of those who used the Internet in the last quarter.
However, it is the fact that many businesses are not yet online due to costs and complicated procedures that has informed the Google initiative. source: http://www.nation.co.ke/business/news/Googles+bid+to+put+small+and+medium+firms+in+Kenya+online++/-/1006/1235136/-/wjb917z/-/index.html
