Tatu City gets Nema nod, ready for phase one

THE multi-billion real estate project Tatu City say they are ready to start work on the first phase of development after the project was cleared by the National Environment Management Authority. NEMA said Tatu City has satisfactory passed the strategic environmental assessment survey on the land as per the proposed master plan.
Without giving specific details, the firm's chairman Nahashon Nyaga said the project is only awaiting other request approvals before work begins later this year or early next year. Nyaga said: “We anticipate beginning works on phase one infrastructure later this year or early next year, depending on how fast we procure all the necessary regulatory approvals by other agencies,” he said in a statement. The development is however facing an uncertain future with an ongoing winding up case which has been filed by a number of minority shareholders.
Nevertheless, Nyaga said yesterday that following the NEMA approval, the company will now submit environmental impact assessment surveys to NEMA for all the phases of the project ahead of groundbreaking for phase one A which will be the city’s central business district. NEMA’s Director General Ayub Macharia pointed out that like preceding approvals, the project had to go through rigorous environmental checks and balances to ensure that the eco-system is protected. The SEA survey is a comprehensive exercise that includes an extensive survey of the site’s environment which includes the socio-economic and demographic and natural resources features. source: http://www.the-star.co.ke/business/local/40225-tatu-city-gets-nema-approval-phase-one-to-begin
