The Kenyan government has rallied policymakers and scientists in Africa to support its bid to host an
Inter-governmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka reiterated the country’s desire to host a platform that connects scientists and policymakers involved in biodiversity conservation. Kalonzo spoke at the United Nations Offices in Nairobi during the opening of the first session of the plenary of the intergovernmental and multi-stakeholder meeting on an intergovernmental science-policy platform on biodiversity and ecosystem services. The five day meeting has brought together governments and non-state actors to discuss the modalities of establishing a strong platform linking science and policy work. President Kibaki had early this year announced Kenya’s desire to host this platform to discuss ecosystem services.
