Odd shape helps Coca Cola East and Central Africa HQ building cut water and power costs

On the roof top of the Coca Cola offices at Nairobi’s Upper Hill area is a lawn which was deliberately included in the building’s design. Although the space in now used as a smoking zone and for relaxion purposes by the company’s staff, the intention of having a rooftop lawn was to reduce “heat gain” into the office.
“By controlling the amount of heat entering the building, we minimise the use of mechanical cooling systems,” said Mr Suresh Deshpande, Coca Cola East and Central Africa business unit environmental and occupational safety manager.
