Kenyan Apps win sub-Saharan Africa Android Developer Challenge


Back in April, Google announced the Android Developer Challenge in Sub-Saharan Africa, a competition to encourage the development of exciting, high quality applications that can delight mobile users in Africa and around the world. Developers in Sub-Saharan Africa submitted hundreds of innovative and interesting applications across three broad categories: apps related to entertainment, media and games; apps related to social networking and communication; and apps related to productivity, tools, and local and geo services. In July the top 29 applications we revealed, provided with new phones, mentoring from Googlers and six weeks to improve their applications. The Olalashe and Shoppers' Delight apps are already on Android Market.

Kenyans clinch top slots in IT contest
Two Kenyan application developers have scooped Sh2.3 million each as prize money after emerging tops in the just-concluded Android Developer Challenge in Sub-Saharan Africa, a competition organised by Google. The two developers are Gerald Kibugi and David Lemaiyan who developed the Shopper’s Delight and Olalashe application.
