Corporate Service Corps 3
In July 2011, twelve IBMers from eleven different countries traveled to Kenya as part of the third IBM Corporate Service Corps. team in the country. One IBMer each came from Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Japan, South Korea, Spain, the U.K. and the U.S. Two were from Finland.
The team (Kenya-3) was based in Nakuru town 200 km outside of Nairobi. Nakuru is Kenya’s fourth largest urban centre (and reportedly the second fastest growing city in the MEA region); it is a unique convergence of agricultural, industrial and services sectors and all 42 of Kenya’s ethnic communities.
IBM’s implementation partner, Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) worked with local government and business organizations to shape 3 distinct projects which were directly influenced by the country’s development agenda, Vision 2030. Each resulted in “quick wins”, medium- and long-term recommendations:
Kenya Education Network Trust (KENET) focused on ways to enhance collaboration between universities and research institutions and increase the usage of the current education and research network.
e-Government defined a standardized public service enablement framework for leveraging new service delivery channels, particularly mobile.
e-Voting examined the 2010 e-Voting and Registration pilot to highlight leverage points and key actions for facilitating a smooth and credible election in 2012.
