Safaricom Sevens Rugby tournament 2011

This year's Safaricom 7s runs from November 4th to 6th. The event which has grown by leaps and bounds since inception in 1996 is this year set to be the biggest. The growing popularity of the Safaricom Sevens has been drawing a fast swelling river of fans that has flooded the event out of RFUEA Grounds, which has been its 'spiritual' home. With over 15,000 spectators expected, the tournament has been relocated to the Nyayo National Stadium, which is spacious, better equipped, more secure, centrally located and more accessible to rugby lovers. This is a move that will definitely give both fans and players a better rugby experience.
The change of the tournament's dates to early November makes a lot of difference. The Rugby World Cup 2011 will end on October 23rd. Again the HSBC Sevens Series will open with Queensland's Gold Coast round in Australia on November 25th. This means that the Safaricom Sevens does not clash with any international rugby tournaments and top international teams will be able to participate. Having these top-flight sides here in Nairobi will be more fun for Kenyan fans. This will also serve as a perfect dress rehearsal for Kenya to prepare for the HSBC Sevens World Series. source: http://www.safaricom.co.ke/safaricom7s/about.html
